World Macaque Day 2025

Join us at 2:30pm on 16th March for a talk and feed to celebrate World Macaque Day!

Lion-tailed macaques are a rare and striking species native to India’s tropical rainforests. Recognisable by their impressive grey mane, they are one of the smallest macaques and mainly feed on fruit, leaves, and seeds.

Meet our troop of eight, including dominant male Guinness and his playful son Pip, and learn more about these fascinating primates. Don’t miss this chance to see them up close!

Did you know?

  • Cheek pouches allow Macaques to collect large amounts of food at one time.
  • Only 1% of their original habitat remains due to widespread deforestation for timber and agriculture.
  • Lion-tail Macaques have up to 17 different vocalisations. These are combined with facial expressions and posturing to communicate within the troop
